Fairy tales and myths represent a parallel universe with its own laws and principles. That universe can be by turns glorious and ghastly. But it’s always Otherworldly. The artist, acting as a sort of shaman, explores the inner world and uses the mystical instruments of art to create a mysterious, fantastic world. The artist influences reality by virtue of his or her artworks. The artist creates magic and manifests it into our world, striving to separate from the dull and aggressive surrounding world. The real world is full of technical marvels and scientific facts yet is lacking in irrational integrity and depth.

Love and interrelationships between various beings – that is the base of artworks by Roman Manikhin. His artistic world is populated by mermaids, surrounded by friends and admirers, dolphins, crocodiles, and other creatures that serve to uncover the facets of femininity.

In the series created specifically for Art Archive, Roman Manikhin presents episodes from the lives of characters living next to the seaside, their emotions, and experiences, their joy in welcoming the long-awaited summer.
