Imprint of the Day

28 august — 11 september 2024

From August 28 to September 11, GUM-Red-Line Gallery will host the exhibition “Imprint of Today.” Graduates of the MMOMA Free Workshops will showcase their visions of analogue photography.

Five photographers will share the results of their experiments with photographic film, chemical reagents, vintage photo cameras, and camera obscura. The artists reconsider the properties of time-honoured technologies by focusing on current contexts and visual languages. The pieces touch upon themes of the real and unreal, dreams and the unconscious, personal memories and loneliness, urbanization, and sustainable consumption.

The exposition includes over 30 photos. However, the artists go beyond the regular photographic imprints on paper. For example, Tatyana Yakusheva transfers photos on signature ceramics, while Nikita Makeev places images upon the body of an old photo camera.

“I didn’t want to contrast digital and analogue photography, it’s much more important to present how contemporary artists reimagine the traditional medium and how this helps to highlight their statements,” notes exhibition curator Nina Omarova.

The exhibition at GUM-Red-Line Gallery is a part of the program for the support of contemporary student art projects.
