An architect by education and a Buddhist by faith, Mikhail Molochnikov formulated his very unique artistic style modelled after Russian avant-garde. El Lissitzky’s PRANs (“Projects for Affirming the New”), Filonov and Tchelitchew’s mysticism, constructivism, modern art, symbolism ― Molochnikov is well aware of the sources that inspire his creativety. Since the late 1980s, Molochnikov’s artworks have gained the recognition of experts and the art community and have been included in the most prestigious museums and private collections: Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Museum, the famous MAK Museum in Vienna and many others.
Molochnikov is also one of the founders of MTM, an art group established in 2006 with the aim of implementing artistic concepts in the vein of Russian avant-garde books c.
1910‒1920s. The artist has participated in over twenty museum exhibitions. In the year of his 60th jubilee, Mikhail Molochnikov remains loyal to his personal understanding of art. For the artist drawing is akin to meditation. The graphic images intertwine to form airy yet meaningful grids. The act of viewing Molochnikov’s works allows to easily enter the artist’s world of visual epiphanies and gain the bouncy feeling of harmony, as though one has experienced a gust of fresh and reinvigorating wind.
The exhibition “Celestial Wind” offers a balanced look on the various facets of the artist’s creativity, his life philosophy, and his spiritual path to a unified. It is a full-scale retrospective of the artist, showcasing graphic series, collages, artist's books, and sculptures, over 60 pieces in total.
