Public talk by Dmitry Ozerkov, Head of Contemporary Art Department of the State Hermitage and curator of the exhibition Zhang Huan. Love as Wisdom in GUM-Red-Line Gallery.

Zhang Huan is a Buddhist monk leading the happy existence of a world-renowned artist. His works have been shown at Art Basel and also monographic exhibitions all over the world. In 2020, the artist's project In the Ashes of History was shown by the State Hermitage. The exhibition became a laureate of TheArtNewspaperRussia award in the field of contemporary art.

Following the news both in China and around the globe, Zhang Huan came to the realization that 2020 heralded the start of humanity’s reflections on what constitutes love as the most important force that drives everyone and everything. He made a series of paintings under the general title Love, two of which are exhibited in the walls of GUM today. The canvases are accompanied by original video works provided by the artist and Pearl Lam Gallery.

During the public talk with the exhibition Zhang Huan. Love as Wisdom curator Dmitry Ozerkov, we will talk about the meaning of the word “love” in Chinese culture and Buddhism, as well as the series of paintings entitled Love.
