Born in the Year of the Dragon, lives and works in Moscow. Rostan's father and grandfather are professional artists. Rostan received training in jewelry art, studied at the Stroganov Moscow Academy of Art and the Moscow Institute of Contemporary Art. For several years, Rostan has been developing his unique method of painting – "hippo-painting": painting with stuffed toys on canvas. For the exhibition at GUM, Rostan took a back seat and provided Alina Glazoun with an opportunity to present her artwork dedicated to the Dragon. Instead, Rostan chose to showcase The Choir, a group of wooden sculptures. In 2004, the artist presented a performance in the course of which he carved out the figures from linden with an electric saw to the music of Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice.
