Marinesca

Moscow artist and photographer Marinesca graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute and spent five years in the Netherlands. Drawing inspiration from the Gothic style, masterworks by Dutch artists, the delicate poetry of Goethe, and the dark stories of Poe, the artist created her very own genderless alter-ego, a graceful androgynous figure seemingly heralding from ancient times. By imitating the visual gestures of her favorite film directors (Hitchcock, Murnau, Tarkovsksy), Marinesca attempts to showcase the aura of “a subtly classical world.” In the artist’s own words, she frequently uses images taken from dreams, making drawings that will serve as a foundation for her future works.
