Born in 1976 in Moscow, in the family of artists Valeria Dobrokhotova and Lev Povzner. Graduate of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov and The Institute of Contemporary Art, Moscow (ICA Moscow).
Alexander Povzner has been actively working and exhibiting in various Russian and foreign art spaces since 2007 The main mediums of the artist are graphics and sculpture. In his work the author uses traditional techniques and materials (paper, acrylic paint, gypsum, bronze). Besides works intended for display in the interior, Povzner creates works for open-air spaces: for example, in 2012 the artist created the installation "Playground" in Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice. In 2017, the installation "Guests" was created specifically for Gorky Park (as part of the Glenmorangie Signet Land Art program).

Graphic works from “kusstvo” series were shown at the eponymous solo exhibition in XL Gallery in summer 2020, while the sculpture was part of the group show “Force majeure” in winter 2021-22.
XL Gallery
Was founded by Elena Selina and Sergey Khripun in 1993 in Moscow as a private exhibition space. The gallery works with Russian contemporary art (represented by artists and groups from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Vienna, Prague, New York, Brussels).
Among the gallery artists are both the classics like Igor Makarevich, Andrey Monastyrsky, Boris Orlov, Viktor Povovarov, Konstantin Zvezdochetov, as well as mid-age stars whose careers developed a lot with XL support (Blusoup group, Alexei Buldakov, Irina Korina, Alexander Povzner, ZIP group)…
During years of operation the gallery organized more than 250 exhibitions at the gallery spaces and other venues. The gallery has established good contacts with museums and art institutions worldwide, giving works on loan and preparing complete exhibitions and commissioned projects under XL Projects label. Among such institutions are SMAK (Ghent), MUHKA (Antwerp), iCI (New York), Museum Folkwang (Essen), State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), MMOMA (Moscow).
Museum-scale exhibitions – to name a few – included two-part “Reconstruction 1990-2000” at Ekaterina cultural foundation, retrospective of late Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe “Archive M” and solo-duo show of Igor Makarevich and Elena Elagina “Countdown” at MMOMA.
